FR. GEORGE ANTHICADU
Father George began his studies in Mangalore, India in 1996 at St Joseph’s Interdiocesan Seminary. After several years of study Father George gained a Bachelor of Philosophy and a Bachelor of Theology. His studies in India, led him to the Diocese of Calicut, where he worked as Associate Pastor to the Cathedral, later as the Diocesan Catechism Director and finally as Chancellor of the Diocese.
In 2009, Father George made the journey to Australia to commence pastoral work with the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle as Associate Priest of St Brigid’s Church. After spending three years at Raymond Terrace, Father George took on the role as Associate Priest of the City Pastoral Region, which incorporated four Parishes with a total of 8 Mass Centres.
In 2014, Father George arrived in the Manning Valley, after being appointed Parish Priest of Taree & Wingham Catholic Parishes, where he currently resides.
FR. JAMES ODOH
Father James originated from Orokam in Ogbadibo Local Government Are of Benue State Nigeria, Africa. He is the second-youngest of seven children. And he did his high school studies in King’s College Otukpo Benue state.
Revd. James started his priestly formation in 2005 when he joined a Religious Order, “The Oblates of the Virgin Mary” in Nigeria but studied with “The National Missionary Seminary of St. Paul” Abuja Nigeria. He studied both Theology and Philosophy for four years each, however combined his last year of Philosophy with his first year of Theology. He did one year Novitiate after his Philosophy Degree and first year of Theology.
Fr. James arrived in Australia 2013 to join the Missionaries of God’s Love. However, he came to join the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese in 2014 after some months of discernment with the Missionaries of God’s Love in Canberra. While discerning his vocation with the diocese, he worked with several social-welfare and religious agencies within the diocese, some of which were: Ministering to Refugees, Mission to seafarers, Special Religious Education (SRE). Revd. James was ordained deacon on the 11th of June 2016, and exactly six months later he was ordained priest on the 10th of December 2016.
A Pastoral Council consists of the Parish Priest together with a group of parishioners chosen by the parish community. The Pastoral Council’s role is to promote the Church’s mission to live and communicate the love and values of Christ in our world. The Pastoral Council shares in the responsibility for the ongoing life and development of the faith community, working together with parishioners to provide support for their efforts to live as followers of Christ.
